"California Wage and Hour Law and Litigation" Wins International "Best Publication" Award

California Wage and Hour Law and Litigation, co-authored by Steven G. Pearl, is the "Best Publication" of 2011, according to the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA), an international organization devoted to improving the performance of CLE professionals. ACLEA's annual awards are highly competitive, and the winning projects represent the highest level of achievement for the staff and authors involved.

Pearl Law Firm Associate Leonard H. Sansanowicz Authors Amicus Letters in Lamps Plus Overtime Cases

Pearl Law Firm associate Leonard H. Sansanowicz has authored a pair of amicus curiae letters to the California Supreme Court on behalf of the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA), asking the Court to or grant review in In re. Lamps Plus Overtime Cases (5/10/11) 195 Cal.App.4th 389.

Lamps Plus, discussed in detail here, addresses a number of issues, Labor Code section 226 and 203 issues and the proper interpretation of California's meal and rest period requirements. This issue is before the California Supreme Court in Brinker v. Superior Court (Hohnbaum).

Mr. Sansanowicz focuses his practice on wage and hour litigation, class actions, and unfair competition. Mr. Sansanowicz earned his law degree at Loyola Law School, where he served as a Senior Articles Editor of the Loyola Law Review of Los Angeles, was a member of the nationally ranked Byrne Trial Advocacy competition team, and served as a board member of the Jewish Students Law Association, La Raza, and the Public Interest Law Foundation.

CELA is a state-wide organization of more than 1,000 California attorneys whose members represent employees in employment law matters. Mr. Sansanowicz serves on CELA's Wage and Hour, Legislative, and Amicus Committees.

State Bar Labor and Employment Law Section Asks Steven G. Pearl to Author Wage and Hour Law Updates

Pearl Law Firm Associate Leonard H. Sansanowicz Authors Amicus Letters in Tien v. Tenet Healthcare

Pearl Law Firm associate Leonard H. Sansanowicz authored a pair of amicus curiae letters to the California Supreme Court on behalf of the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA), asking the Court to depublish or grant review in Tien v. Tenet Healthcare Corp. (2/16/11) 2011 WL 523611.

Tien, discussed in detail here, addressed a number of issues, including proper interpretation of California's meal and rest period requirements. These issues are before the California Supreme Court in Brinker v. Superior Court (Hohnbaum). On May 18, 2001, the Court granted review in Tien and deferred further action pending its decision in Brinker.

Mr. Sansanowicz focuses his practice on wage and hour litigation, class actions, and unfair competition. Matthew Bender and NELA Select Steven G. Pearl and Leonard H. Sansanowicz to Write Treatise on Federal Wage Law

The National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) and Matthew Bender have selected Steven G. Pearl and Pearl Law Firm associate Leonard H. Sansanowicz to author a new chapter on the federal Fair Labor Standards Act for Employee Rights Litigation: Pleading & Practice.

Employee Rights Litigation: Pleading & Practice is a three-volume practice guide covering "all aspects of employment law, including statutory and common law claims, as well as a synopsis of the law, practitioners' tips, and forms." The new chapter to be written by Mr. Pearl and Mr. Sansanowicz will include an extensive selection of forms for individual and collective actions under the FLSA.

Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine Publishes Article by Steven G. Pearl

The November, 2010, edition of Los Angeles Lawyer magazine includes an article by Steven G. Pearl entitled "The Limits on Employer Deductions from Pay in California."

The article explores section 8 of the Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Orders, which allows employers to deduct from employees' wages for shortage, breakage, or loss "caused by a dishonest or willful act, or by the gross negligence of the employee." Mr. Pearl considers whether this provision is invalid as conflicting with the Labor Code and whether Due Process protects employees from employers' extrajudicial deductions from wages.

Los Angeles Lawyer magazine is published by the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) and is available here. Mr. Pearl co-chair's LACBA's Labor and Employment Law Section Dinner Committee and serves on the Planning Committee for LACBA's Annual Labor and Employment Law Symposium.

The editors of Employee Rights Litigation: Pleading and Practice recently turned to Steven G. Pearl to help prepare their annual update. Mr. Pearl assisted with the chapter on the federal wage and hour law, the Fair Labor Standards Act.

California Education of the Bar (CEB) Publishes Article by Steven G. Pearl

California Education of the Bar (CEB) has published an article written by Steven G. Pearl in the July edition of its California Business Law Reporter. The article explains the California Supreme Court's recent decision in Martinez v. Combs (2010) 49 Cal.4th 35 and discusses its importance for California businesses and their attorneys.

CEB, a joint venture of the University of California and the State Bar of California, is California's leading legal publisher.

CEB Chooses Steven G. Pearl to Author Wage and Hour Litigation Treatise

Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) has selected Steven G. Pearl to author a chapter in its forthcoming treatise, California Wage and Hour Law: Compliance and Litigation. Mr. Pearl will author the chapter entitled Litigating Wage and Hour Cases: Plaintiffs' Perspective.

Mr. Pearl is principal of The Pearl Law Firm, a Los Angeles, California Wage and Hour Law Firm for Employees. Mr. Pearl represents employees in individual cases and class actions to recover unpaid minimum wages, overtime compensation, compensation for missed meal breaks and missed rest breaks, vacation pay, commissions, and bonus compensation. "Even though we've used the same URL for a number of years, the web site is completely re-designed and adds a huge amount of new content," said Steven G. Pearl, principal of The Pearl Law Firm.
